About the role
As Head of Technology, you will play a central role in delivering Cochrane’s strategy. You will lead the organisation’s software development, systems architecture, and IT operations. Your mission is to ensure that Cochrane’s technology infrastructure is secure, sustainable, and aligned with organisational needs and long-term goals. You’ll lead both internal and external technical teams, work collaboratively with stakeholders across the organisation, and foster an Agile/Scrum culture. This role demands strong leadership, excellent technical judgment, and a proactive, problem-solving mindset.

Work tasks
- The opportunity to contribute to an organisation dedicated to a meaningful global cause
- Lead IT Development & Operations team, promoting growth, knowledge sharing, and Agile culture
- Report on performance and advise on long-term IT infrastructure planning
- Oversee architecture and standards for custom systems
- Coordinate with teams and vendors to meet architectural goals
- Manage procurement processes, including RFPs and vendor selection
- Plan and manage software components of key projects
- Oversee budgets, work plans, and performance of development teams
- Supervise development lifecycle, technical risks, and developer recruitment
- Collaborate on IT operations to ensure security, consistency, and performance
- Support internal IT systems and align development with operational needs
- Contribute to fundraising proposals and reports
- Stay current with industry trends and innovations
We are looking for
- Experience in managing software teams, preferably using Agile methods
- Proven experience overseeing technical architecture and infrastructure
- Strong background in project management, stakeholder engagement, and decision-making
- Excellent communication skills and ability to lead in a remote/global environment
- Solid knowledge of systems integration technologies and design patterns
- Fluent in English both written and speaking
- Willingness to travel as needed
Preferred Skills:
- Familiarity with Cochrane, global health, or evidence-based healthcare
- Experience with XML, publishing systems, and modern AI tools such as machine learning and large language models
